MoJet® – Full-Scale Tunnel Test Success in Italy

In June this year, MoJet Ventilation were present at a full-scale tunnel test in Italy that confirmed the increase in performance available using the MoJet.

With our partners De Cardenas in Italy, our Chief Technology Officer, Dr Fathi Tarada and specialist design engineer Pier Bertacche assisted in testing the MoJet to compare with conventional jet fans.

The measurements were undertaken by Risk Design Engineering at the Omegna Tunnel in northern Italy. The Omegna Tunnel has an arched or horse-shoe geometry, which from our experience shows a significant performance uplift once MoJet silencers are installed.

Under instruction from the highway authority, ANAS, the objective was to make a direct performance comparison between conventional jet fans, then the same installation with the MoJet solution replacing the conventional configuration. De Cardenas provided all the fans under test.

Our interest was to see if the test results confirmed the predicted performance increase, validating the tool available on our website.

The increase in installed performance was as expected and confirmed to the client that the MoJet delivers additional in-tunnel thrust on a like-for-like basis. Details of the test results will be presented at the forthcoming “13^th International Conference on Tunnel Safety and Ventilation” in Graz, Austria to be held on 21-22 April 2026.

Commenting on the results, Dr Fathi Tarada says “Having the tests carried out independently gave us immediate opportunity to compare and comment objectively. Obviously, Pier and I were delighted to see that the expected improvements were evident, and this gives us increased confidence in proposing the MoJet for similar type projects in the future”.

The benefit using MoJets can be applied to any jet fan – and gives a cost-effective uplift in installed performance.

The online tool has been further refined of late and includes both flat-soffit and horse-shoe tunnel geometry – and is based on generic fans details.
