TLT-Turbo GmbH and Mosen Ltd successfully test the MoJet® in Mersey Queensway Tunnel, UK

TLT-Turbo GmbH undertook an extensive series of laboratory tests and site tests within the Rendel Street branch of the Mersey Queensway Tunnel on a 1.25m internal diameter MoJet® as well as with an equivalent conventional jet fan. Mosen Ltd supported this R&D effort with its intellectual property and detailed aerodynamic design using 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Support and advice for the tunnel measurements were provided by RWTH Aachen University, and in particular by Dr.-Ing. Wilhelm Jessen and his team. Merseytravel, and its Principal Officer Adeola Kehinde, kindly agreed to make the Queensway Tunnel available for this research work during one of its regular closures.

The measurements indicated a dramatic increase in the in-tunnel thrust, for no increase in motor power consumption. The MoJet® technology thus represents the next generation of tunnel ventilation design, offering a reduction in the required number of jet fans and overall tunnel power demand, as well as a marked improvement in sustainability and energy efficiency.
